Want to Lead a creative studio? 

Nicework is looking for a person to lead their creative studio. This role involves delivering world-class creative to a variety of clients. You will need to be in possession of a brain and enjoy creating clarity for the problems our clients look to us to solve. It involves working hard, drinking tea and having fun.

You are:

  • Able to understand complex business problems and apply design thinking to them
  • Execute world class design
  • Have an amazing knowledge of:
    • Branding
    • Graphic Design
    • Presentations
    • Websites
    • Film & Animation
  • Mentor, (gently) push and grow your team mates
  • Work across the business – with development, design, management, suppliers and clients
  • Able to think for yourself and can function with ambiguity
  • Capable of surviving periods of high pressure without melting down
  • In possession of an attitude that is positive and proactive.
  • Proud of your talent and willing to apply it
  • In possession of at least a bachelors degree
    (unless you are some kind of savant in which case you will have to prove it)
  • Well versed at leading a creative team and have at least 5 years experience doing so
  • Able to present to a room full of people and sell the crap out of the work
    (calm down – we will never make you sell a rubbish idea)
  • Sensitive to the commercial aspect of business and can keep projects on budget and within deadline
  • Clear and decisive with your feedback and guidance to your team mates
  • Committed to managing people and enjoy it
  • A bigger picture kind of person

Your Primary Responsibilities:

  • Development of creative treatment and strategy
    • Working with Clients to create their communication/design strategy and align it to their business goals
    • Making sure the team is executing on brief/strategy
    • Display an understanding of our client business’ and their industry
  • Presentation to clients and prospects
    • Taking and clarifying briefs
    • Selling creative concepts and briefs
    • Identifying cross and upselling opportunities
    • Managing client expectations thought the project
    • Giving clients reports on the status of their jobs
  • Managing junior people
    • Give them Day to day design guidance
    • Make briefs clear
    • Remove any obstacles they have 
    • Reduce stress in the studio
    • Making sure people are following process
  • Growing junior people
    • Grow the team interns of the quality and speed of their output.
    • Working with ECD to create a learning roadmap for juniors
    • Mentoring people
    • Sharing experience with the team
    • Feedback on the team and their progress
  • Branding development
  • General graphic design, layout and typography
  • Client interactions face to face, written and by telephone
  • Basic project management
  • Contribution to Nicework marketing in the form of content development, the blog, magazine and social media platforms
  • Quality control of studio work output

Secondary Duties:

  • Managing interns and external resources
  • Interviewing new recruits
  • Be really good at Powerpoint Karaoke
  • Other duties as defined by management (Sounds ominous doesn't it)
  • Fu#king around and having fun

Bonus points if you can:

  1. Write code
  2. Write copy
  3. Can do basic video editing
  4. Understand animation and broadcast design
  5. Knowledge of Inbound marketing

Be aware: Sometimes the hours are long
